MOGADISHU- According to security officials and witnesses, 11 people have been killed in an explosion in a busy market in a small Somalian city north of Mogadishu

Mohamed Abdikarim, a regional security official, told AFP, “Eleven people were confirmed dead and more than 10 others were wounded in the blast which we are still investigating, some of the victims have serious wounds and they are admitted at hospital.”

AFP is reporting that sources told them they were unsure whether the blast was was caused by suicide bomber attack or an explosive device was used.

The blast occurred at Wanlaweyn district at 70 kilometers (about45 miles) around the marketplace.

A witness said, “There was chaos at the market, a number of people died and others wounded, I saw the severed dead bodies of civilians but there were also security personnel involved in the casualty.”

No group has taken responsibility for the blast, Al Shabaab who are linked to Al-Qaeda, are known to be present in the region.
