LIMPOPO- Seven suspects believed to be behind Monday’s cash-in-transit heist outside Polokwane have been nabbed, with two bullet riddled stolen vehicles, rifle ammunition, cartridges, explosives and money bags being retrieved in Seshego.
Captain Matimba Maluleke of the Hawks in Limpopo said on Tuesday more arrests were imminent.
The suspects were arrested after an “intensified operation” between the Hawks, a provincial task team, the police’s tactical response unit and crime intelligence gathering following the heist in Matlala Road early on Monday morning.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said at the time that a group of armed suspects driving in a white Isuzu double cab bakkie and a blue RAV4 in the early hours of the morning, 05:35am, attacked the cash van, fired shots at its wheels until it came to a stop.
Security officers guarding the van were held at gunpoint, explosives were used to blast open the safe.
The armed gang fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police officials added that two security officers were injured and taken to hospital.
