A boy aged six drowned in Wilderness on Sunday the 16th of December.
The boy was at the beach with his sister swimming, when he faced difficulty.
“The boy was recovered from the lagoon at main beach by lifeguards and CPR was commenced immediately,” says Mike Vonk, NSRI Wilderness deputy station commander.
“An ER24 response paramedic and ER24 ambulance responded to the scene. NSRI Wilderness, SANParks rangers, George Fire and Rescue Services, SA Police Services and George Municipal Law Enforcement also responded.
“The ER24 paramedics, together with Sea Rescue medics and a senior lifeguard, continued resuscitation efforts on the child. He was transported to hospital by the ER24 ambulance with CPR continuing en route to the hospital. CPR continued at the hospital, but sadly after all efforts to resuscitate the child were exhausted, he was declared deceased.”
