Al Ahly veteran defender Saad Samir cleared to face Mamelodi Sundowns

Al Ahly have confirmed that veteran defender Saad Samir has recovered from an injury and will be fit to play against Mamelodi Sundowns in their CAF Champions League quarter-final second leg on Saturday, 22 May.

Samir suffered an adductor muscle injury which forced him to remain on the sidelines for a couple of weeks.

Nonetheless, he was included in Al Ahly’s squad which travelled to South Africa to face Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to the Al Ahly website, Samir has been training with Ali Maaloul, who also just recovered from his hamstring injury, and joined the team in their training on Thursday after undergoing a medical check-up.

Al Ahly beat Sundowns 2-0 in the first leg in Cairo last weekend thanks to goals by Taher Mohamed and Salah Mohsen.

The Brazilians and Al Ahly will clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
