‘All I want to know is who killed my son’- father of man killed by mob

EAST LONDON-  The father of a young man who was killed by vigilantes in Scenery Park in early August, says the local police have done nothing about his murder.
Sisonke Mbuyazwe from the Zibonele informal settlement was killed in August 2 by a group of people from the community.
His father, 66 year-old Thembinkosi Mbuyazwe says police haven’t given him a case number nor taken a statement. Only once did an officer visited him soon after the incident, but he has never heard from him again. Mbuyazwe accusses the police of playing ‘hide and seek’.
“All I want to know is who killed my son and what are the police doing,” Mbuyazwe said. Mbuyazwe says he last saw his son, who was unemployed and lived in a nearby informal settlement, the day before he was killed. He had asked his father for R50.  “I did not have cash that day. I told him to come back in the morning,” he said
Later that night he was awoken by people banging on his door and singing. He could not sleep as it was the first he had heard his son accused of anything criminal. In the morning he heard people running in the morning and a neighbour advised him not to go to the scene because something bad had happened.
Mbuyazwe says he could not believe his eyes when he saw his son’s body being taken by a mortuary van and wants to know who poured the petrol.
