CAPE TOWN- The Department of Correctional Services confirmed Tuesday the sixth escapee has been caught after he escaped Pollsmoor Prison with five other convicts.
Convicted rapist Siphenathi Ntantiso, 20, was arrested earlier in the day in Kleinvlei as he was the last escapee to be caught by the police.
The prison escape happened in the correctional centre’s B5 section at around 23:00 on Sunday.
Prison officials believe they used a piece of metal, obtained by breaking a bed, to remove bars.
The other five inmates were arrested in Kalksteenfontein, Blackheath and Ocean View on Monday.
Western Cape regional commissioner Delekile Klaas thanked the emergency support team and police who gave themselves 72 hours to capture the inmates but did it in 48 hours.
She added, “But, our special thanks should also go to members of our communities for having provided intelligence on the whereabouts of the escapees.”
