AMG shows off four-door GT prototype

JOHANNESBURG – Mercedes-AMG is getting ready to pull the covers off the long-awaited four-door version of the AMG GT and these official pictures show a disguised prototype undergoing final testing.

The camo does not leave much to the imagination and we are finished product seems to have remained relatively faithful to last year’s GT concept. It boasts an aggressively tapered rear end that resembles the coupe as closely as possible within the packaging constrains of a large four-door body.

The front, does however, have wider headlight that the two-door version, which is inspired by the new eyes on the latest CLS.

Still, there has been no official word on what is under the bonnet. Word on the street is that the first version will start out with the E63’s 450kW4-litre twin-turbo V8, while these is an even hotter petrol-electric hybrid variant that could be released at a later stage.

The new AMG will be a clear attempt to blur the lines between sedan and sports car. It’s also said to be compared against Porsche’s Panamera.

The new GT is expected to make its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
