PORT ELIZABETH- The Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday sentenced ANC Councillor Andile Lungisa to three years with one year suspended, implying an effective two years direct jail term.
Magistrates Morne Cannon said it was clear Lungisa had no remorse for his actions and during his testimony during his mitigation of sentencing.
Cannon said, “There is a direct difference between true remorse and regret.”
Lungisa was then taken into custody after his sentencing early on Wednesday afternoon.
The court found Lungisa to have unlawfully and intentionally hit Kayser over the head with a glass water jug without provocation.
Co-accused Gamalihleli Maqula was acquitted on all charges in March when the court found that there was not enough evidence against him for conviction.
