London- On deadline day, Arsenal have completed the signing of former Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The 28 year old signed a club record fee of £55 million after leaving Dortmund as their leading goal scorer for several seasons.
The star striker scored 98 goals for Dortmund in 144 Bundesliga games and in total had 172 goals in 213 matches. Aubameyang was also named African footballer of the year in 2015. Aubameyang joins Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United, as Wenger attempts to strengthen his team after losing Alexis Sanchez to United and fighting for a place in the Champions league. This is an important buy from Wenger and Arsenal after their 3-1 defeat to Swansea on Tuesday night, if they have any chance of qualifying for a Champions league place and silverware, the team needs to have better results after the end of the transfer window.
Arsenal forthcoming games are against tough opposition, Everton first, Tottenham Spurs next, then the UEFA champions league round of 32 against Ostersund and then ultimately league leaders Manchester City twice on the 25 of February for the football league Cup final and on the 3rd of March, a premier league fixture. Arsenal fans will be hoping the new signings will quickly gel with the team and a better season ahead.
