PRETORIA- The Bafana Bafana player arrested at the weekend for allegedly driving drunk has been released on bail.
Police spokesperson Superintendant Isaac Mahamba told TimesLIVE on Monday, “He was released on R1000 bail and will appear at the Hatfield Magistrate’s court on May 15 2019‚”
Mahamba added, “We are expecting to get results from the blood samples taken by next year. However if the results come back before the court date‚ he will be subpoenaed to appear in court.”
But Mahamba refused to release the name of the Bafana player arrested, only confirming the man was a Bafana Bafana player.
The football star was caught during a road block in Pretoria during the weekend.
He is reportedly to be over 15 times over the legal limit.
The Sowetan reported that the player was among 15 people arrested at the roadblock. The Sowetan is reporting the player is Andile Jali but is has not been confirmed.
Mahamba added, “Fifteen people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol between 10pm and midnight.
“Among the 15 people arrested, one is a 28-year-old former Orlando Pirates player currently playing for the national soccer team.
“Motorists are encouraged to rather find alternative transport than to drink and drive. Well done to the officers for the outstanding arrests. No one is above the law.”
