Big bucks for Pitso, but his sweet deal may have cost him

Johannesburg – Pitso Mosimane has signed a new contract with Mamelodi Sundowns – but he may no longer be calling all the shots.

A new technical director at Sundowns could result in Mosimane not being in total control of the department.

This after Sundowns boss Patrice Motsepe announced on Thursday that Jose Ramon Alexanko had been promoted to head of the technical structure of the senior team from the Brazilian’s head of youth.

This could mean that the buck stops with Alexanko.

“This thing of buying players willy-nilly is over. José will oversee all the incomings and outgoings at the club. No player is going to be signed unless he says so. He is basically the go-to guy for everything,” said a Sundowns insider.

The Brazilians have not responded to questions regarding Alexanko’s role and responsibilities.

During the announcement, Motsepe said how he had gone to the bank to “extend his overdraft” to meet the financial clauses in Mosimane’s new contract.

“You can’t pay Pitso what you pay South African coaches,” said Motsepe, implying that the accomplished coach would most certainly rake in the big bucks thanks to the new deal.
