Calls for fuel levy relief to be extended

Johannesburg – The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) is calling for a further extension of the R1.50 fuel levy relief.

Another hefty fuel price hike is expected next month.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is set to reduce this to a reprieve of 75cents per litre from July 6 to August 6.

But OUTA said this will be detrimental and that government should leave the relief at R1.50.

The civic society organisation says the price of fuel is expected to increase by an estimated R1.75 in the first week of July.

The group noted that the continued war in Ukraine is keeping the international price of oil at high levels between $110 and $120 per barrel.

Couples with this, the rand has been weaker against the US dollar.
