Award season is upon us, and the spotlight is shining bright on the music industry. Next up, the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards is the ultimate celebration of music and black excellence.
And the South African music scene is on fire right now with multiple artists nominated for the prestigious honour. Maglera Doe Boy, Dlala Thukzin, and TXC, have all earned nods at the BET Awards 2025 in the “Best New International Act” category.
Maglera Doe Boy
Another BET Award nomination in the bag for rapper Maglera Doe Boy; will he bring it home this time?
He is no stranger to the spotlight. Last year, he was nominated for “Best International Flow” at the 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards, and he’s been killing the game ever since.
With his smooth flow and innovative sound, Maglera has become a household name in Mzansi hip-hop. This year, he has been featured on the ‘Godfather of Harlem’ soundtrack.
He also performed and curated a playlist for the luxury South African brand MaXhosa Africa for Paris Fashion Week in April. The high-profile gig was just another example of Maglera’s growing influence and global reach.
Dlala Thukzin
The Gqom sensation is another artist who has been making waves globally. His album “Finally Famous Too” has gained critical acclaim. He has also toured the US and performed across the globe in countries such as the UK, and is set to take over Rotterdam in the Netherlands this May.
Dlala Thukzin’s music is an infectious fusion of Gqom and 3-step and his nomination is well-deserved. He is one of the most exciting artists to come out of South Africa in recent years.
Amapiano duo Tarryn Reid and Clairise Hefke, known collectively as TXC, have been gaining momentum with their fresh amapiano sound. With features from amapiano heavyweights such as Daliwonga and LeeMcKrazy.
They are the latest talent to hit the amapiano scene, with a couple of years in the game, they have managed to reach global recognition and success.
The duo has performed in Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and FIFA Fan Festival, showcasing their production techniques and the amapiano sound that has come to be enjoyed globally.
On another note, Tyla is back on the nomination list for “Best International Act” alongside amapiano DJ Uncle Waffles.
Hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, the 2025 BET Awards are set to air live on BET from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Monday, June 9, at 8pm.
