This follows after officers allegedly towed an illegally parked vehicle belonging to a church member in Hillbrow leading to a rampant outburst from church members.

One unfortunate officer was disarmed by the angry mob and left unconscious much to the surprise of the JMPD department.

The officer in question in said to be recovering in a local hospital, while other officers managed to escape leaving one of their own for dead.

Spokesperson Wayne Mienaar says the officer tried to fire four warning shots to try and stop the angry congregants from attacking him but the mob could not back down.

“The officer was knocked unconscious despite shooting into the air to prevent the attack,” he said.

Mienaar says it is very strange for church goers to attack someone in that manner whilst they should be the ones who promote peace and lead others by example.

“The Joburg Safety Department strongly condemns the attack on a JMPD officer in Hillbrow where a car belonging to a member of the church was hooked up for parking illegally,” he added.

Meanwhile, church leader Derek Sibisi has defended his congregants saying the JMPD has been harassing church members to a point that they could not take it anymore.

Amongst angry mobs who attacked the officer, only one has been arrested for illegal possession of an officer’s service pistol.
