Johannesburg – Johannesburg mayor Mpho Phalatse is under pressure to announce solutions to the rising crime and unstable service delivery in the city when she delivers her maiden state of the city address.
Phalatse will be the first woman to make the speech and does so as attacks on electricity and water infrastructure, are increasing and communities rise against foreign nationals.
On the streets, people say they expect a candid acknowledgement of the city’s problems.
The speech will be made in the Johannesburg council chambers and will be followed by a day of questions from councillors on Friday.
