Johannesburg – ‘Please Call Me’ inventor Nkosana Makate has emerged victorious after another round in court against Vodacom.
The Pretoria Court has given the network provider 21-days to give Makate copies of financial records and contracts it had with other service providers,
Makate wanted to see what deals were kin place fro services including airtime advance, bulk messaging, Look4ME and more.
Judge Jody Kollapen had rules that Makate should be handed the documents in 2008, but that the information would be subjected to a ‘confidentiality regime’ which prevents the inventor from passing it on to a third party.
Makate had previously approached the court to force CEO Shameel Joosub into disclosing financial records.
The court order Vodacom to enter into negotiations with Makate in order to determine a reasonable payout to compensate him. Initially, Makate had sought 15% of the proceeds made from his service.
