COURTNEY PIETERS MURDER: MOM EXPECTED TO CONTINUE GIVING TESTIMONY

CAPE TOWN-  The mother of murdered three-year-old Courtney Pieters is expected to continue giving evidence in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday morning.

The State on Monday called their first witness, Juanita Pieters in the trial of Mortimer Saunders who has pleaded guilty in murdering three year old Courtney Pieters.

In May 2017, Saunders was arrested after the girl’s body was found in Epping industria.

On Monday, he pleaded guilty to murdering her but claims it was not premeditated.

Saunders also admitted to necrophilia but pleaded not guilty to rape.  However the State refused to accept any of his admissions.

It was all too much for Courtney’s mother,  Juanita Pieters, who broke down in the witness stand.

Pieters testified about the last day she saw her three-year-old daughter alive.

Court adjourned for Pieters to gather herself. She told the court she and Mortimer Saunders did not like each other very much, as he regularly caused problems between her and her boyfriend.

Saunders claims in his statement that the child had been irritating him after she visited his bedroom twice that morning to watch TV while he wanted to sleep.

He further claims his irritation was compounded by ill intentions and feelings towards Juanita.

This is when he decided to feed the child ant poison, he said he only intended to make her sick, to get back at her mother.

Court proceedings continue on today.
