Johannesburg – The Democratic Alliance says the worsening electricity crisis must be declared a state of disaster.
It wants the matter on the agenda of the next cabinet meeting.
The party also wants a swifter response on independent power producers being allowed to generate electricity.
“We are saying that we need to reprioritise our budget to make sure that energy projects are the number one priority for the next five years,” said DA MP.
“I don’t think I can make it clearer than this, without a reliable electricity supply, without reliable consistent electricity available 24 hours a day our economy is going to stagnant, the employment figures are going to worsen and things are generally going to get bad.”
