DJ Black Coffee speaks on his life

JOHANNESBURG – The globally acclaimed and South Africa’s most decorated artist, DJ Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo says being a celebrity is not as easy and fun like what people think it is.

He says that it takes a lot of dedication and hardwork to produce quality music, adding that talent alone is not enough to break through in the music industry.

Although he has rubbed shoulders and produced music for artists like Alicia keys, Swizz Beatz, P Diddy and Drake amongst other music greats, he says he doesn’t allow that get to his head.

“I have worked with music legends around the globe, but that doesn’t change who I am, I try to maintain the original DJ Black Coffee, a brand that people around the globe have grown to love so much,” he said.

The globetrotting artist says whilst off-duty, he prefers to spend some quality time with his children and actress wife Mbali Enhle Maphumulo.

“I am not a type of guy who goes clubbing whilst I am at work, I like spending time with my family,” he said.

Referring to an interview last Friday on Metro FM’s Fresh Breakfast show, the DJ also criticized how people manipulate Twitter to discredit artists instead of supporting them.

He was referring to a post by someone in his Twitter account which said that he turned down Jay Z’s offer to produce him a song.

According to DJ Black Coffee, the moment he got a call from Swizz Beatz that he needed a song for Jay Z, he was overwhelmed and humbled but was just not ready for such a big project.

The DJ also promised more quality music to all his fans worldwide.
