Pietermaritzburg – The state says former president Jacob Zuma’s bid to remove state prosecutor Billy Downer should be rejected.
The former president applied for a special plea to have Downer removed from his corruption trial, accusing him of being political and biased.
However, the state says Zuma does not have the right to call into question his admission as an advocate or his ability to conduct the prosecution on behalf of the state.
Zuma is facing 16 charges relating to a multi-billion-dollar arms deal.
The trial is set to resume on 19 July.
