CAPE TOWN- Parents at a Port Elizabeth school are outraged at the unauthorized HIV tests performed on students.
The Eastern Cape Education Department says its officials will meet with the angry parents of a Port Elizabeth school where children were subjected to HIV tests without parental consent.
The department had a meeting on Monday at the Alfonso Arries Primary School.
Department’s Loyiso Phulumani said that consent forms were given to the children but not all of them were returned signed.
He said, “The intervention to the school was not adequate. You can’t just have an open tent, where you conduct testing without any confidentiality. You must consult learners separately.”
