Education council calls for action to be taken against Stellenbosch student

Cape Town – The Council for Higher Education says the attack on the black Stellenbosch University student goes way beyond the physical.

In a video that has gone viral, a white student can be seen urinating on the desk of a black student after breaking into his room.

The Council says the white student intended to completely demean and dehumanise his victim.

It further added that the act forced the victim to question his legitimate right to study at the public university.

It said the student’s wellbeing will be affected and the incident could negatively impact his academic performance ahead of exams.

The council says the university must take the strongest action possible against the perpetrator while questioning the institution’s transformation project.
