Eersterust Police Station attacked, 16 suspects arrested

PRETORIA- Eersterust Police Station, east of Pretoria on Thursday evening was attacked following protests in area in this week, police authorities have confirmed that 16 people have been arrested for the incident.

A police firearm was one of the items stolen during the attack.

South African Police Service (SAPS) said that 12 suspects were arrested and have been successfully linked to the crime scene.

SAPS said that the 13th suspect was arrested for drug  (dagga) possession and three more suspects arrested for possesion of stolen property, related to items related to shops looted during the protests this week in Eersterust.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Deliwe de Lange thanked police effects to arrest the suspects, he said,  “Police will work around the clock to ensure that all missing items are recovered, particularly the service firearm,” De Lange said.

“Next is for our investigators to work towards ensuring prosecutable cases with convictions that would ultimately serve as deterrents to anyone else who has plans to undermine the authority of the State.”

SAPS also further revealed that a plasma TV and a computer have been recovered.
