ITALY- An amazing new technology has been developed by Feel The View – Ford Italy and GTB Roma in collaboration with Aedo, an Italian company that specialises in devices for the visually impaired.
The device gives an experience to blind or partially-sighted passengers an ability to view stunning views during road trips. The Ford prototype a smart car window aims to change the ability of blind or partially-sighted people to visualise passing scenery through touch.
The technology works by touching the image, first it takes pictures that are turned into high-contrast monochrome images. They are then reproduced on the glass using special LEDs.
When the passenger touches the image different shades of grey vibrate, a range of 255 intensifies, it allows the passenger to touch the scene and create their own landscape in front of them.
Ford spokesperson said, “We developed a new language to give people who cannot see a landscape, the chance to feel it,”
“We seek to make people’s lives better and this was a fantastic opportunity to help blind passengers experience a great aspect of driving. The technology is advanced, but the concept is simple – and could turn mundane journeys into truly memorable ones,” he said.
