Former Newcastle mayor slapped with fine for inciting assault

Johannesburg – Former Newcastle Mayor, Ntuthuko Nkululeko Mahlaba has been slapped with a R20,000 fine, or two-years in jail.

The Newcastle Regional Court found him guilty of inciting assault. This is connected to an incident last year in Aviary Hill.

Mahlaba instructed unknown people to assault workers who continued to dig trenches for fibre cables when he had instructed them to stop.

The workers’ tools were taken and cables were damaged.

The National Prosecuting Authority said six witnesses placed Mahlaba at the scene.
