Free State officially nominates Dlamini-Zuma for ANC presidency

FREE STATE – The ANC in the Free State province is the latest province to back former chairperson of the African Union, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma for the ANC top job. This follows its provincial general council meeting in Parys on Tuesday night.

They announced Mpumalanga premier and ANC chairperson David Mabuza as her deputy, Ace Magashule for secretary general as well as Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane for the treasurer general position.

They nominated minister of Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa for the position of chairperson while Jessie Duarte was nominated for deputy secretary general.

The people who were nominated in Dlamini-Zuma’s slate were picked so they could pull the numbers for her, that is according to EFF leader Julius Malema.

Malema had previously advised that Cryil Ramaphosa include Mabuza in his camp as he has a whole province behind him, but it would seem the Dlamini-Zuma camp beat him to it.

It is reported that Dlamini-Zuma has garnered the support of 26 branches while 44 branches were behind Ramaphosa.

Other branches that have come out in support of Dlamini-Zuma include Ekurhuleni. Robert Mashego, chairperson of the Regional Executive Committee aid their backing of Dlamini-Zuma was due to her unwavering commitment to the radical economic transformation.

 

The REC is said to prefer Gwede Mantashe and Paul Mashatile to be elected national chairperson and treasurer-general respectively.
