Johannesburg – A provincial task team has been set up to investigate the murder of Gauteng health department Babita Deokaran.
The Special Investigating Unit has confirmed Deokaran was a witness in a probe into PPE purchase irregularities.
Deokaran passed away from her wounds in hospital.
During her tenure, she uncovered corruption and stopped payments of irregular contracts in the department.
Premier David Makhura said they are taking steps to protect officials who have become targets of threats and intimidation.
