General strike in public services paralyzes Algeria

Algiers- Public service labour unions have gone on strike in Algeria, that has crippled education, health, vocational training and the telecommunications industries.

SNPEST teachers union, headed by Meziane Meriane denounced workers who have gone on strike, claiming to the Associated Press (AP) as sinking purchasing power and the aim of the strike was too force the government to begin negotiations on “urgent pay rises,” he said.

Many Algiers schools have been shut down, amidst the strike, there are long queues seen in hospitals and people unable to withdraw money from the ATM machines.

Algeria economy and stability have not been stale, the state of the nation has been deteriorating as the government has failed to tackle the country’s economic crisis as the oil prices slump.
