CAPE TOWN- There is a possibility that former Springbok player Johan Goosen could return to rugby by signing with French Top 14 side Montpellier.

Goosen and his club Racing 92 made a surprising announcement in the end of 2016 that he was retiring, Goosen was 24 years old at that time.

French media are reporting that Montpellier owner Mohed Altrad has agreed to buy out the player’s contract with Racing 92 at a suggested R20 million.

Goosen had signed a contract extension with Racing 92, increasing his salary to €500 000 (R7.15 million) per year.

But the player unexpectedly took a corporate job as a commercial director’s job in South Africa, that did not sit well at all with Racing.

Rugbyrama a French website is reporting that owner Althrad is going to pay €1.4 million (R20 million) for Goosen to be released from his Racing 92 contract.

The report indicates that Johan Goosen is likely to join Montpellier in July 2018. Goosen has 13 test caps for the Springboks and last played for the boks in November 2016, before his apparent retirement.
