
JOHANNESBURG- The Department of Public Enterprises has confirmed that a new interim board has been appointed at Transnet.
The department released a statement late on Monday, where Public Enterprise minster Pravin Gordhan said he has removed all the remaining board members in Transnet directorship with immediate effect and he appointed a new interim board, pending a full appointment, in consultation with Cabinet.
Gordhan said in the statement that he hoped that the new interim board would be able to provide the kind of corporate governance needed during this stage.
The new interim chairperson is African National Congress veteran Popo Molefe, he said he was humbled by the appointment, “I am humbled by the news that the minister in consultation with his colleagues in the Cabinet have decided to appoint me to the interim board of Transnet and I’m still waiting for formal communication.”
