H & M Pulls out Controversial Ad

International clothing retailer, H & M was forced to apologise after using a black child to model a sweatshirt with the slogan ‘coolest monkey in the jungle’.

Social media went crazy after the ad campaign launched by H & M mocking the black community by calling them monkeys.

The retail store removed the offensive picture of the ad from their website after hundreds social media users accused them of being racist. Although, they are still making money off of it from their online store.

Famous stars such as Somizi Mhlongo took to his 1.4m followers: “I’ve never been a fan of @hm since day 1 they launched in South Africa. First they never had people of colour in their campaigns even when they came to Africa. Now this. Let’s show them the power of monkey rand by not buying ish from them,” and also posted words from  Pastor John P. Kee.

This is not the first time the store has put out something so provocative to the black community. When they first came out to South Africa, social media again found it rather odd that they came to Africa and lacked models of colour.

H & M is an international clothing retailer, targeted at fashionable kids, teens, ladies and gents with style, of all races, although their ads prove otherwise.
