HEINEKEN REMOVES BEER AD AFTER CHANCE THE RAPPER COMPLAINS OF RACISM

LOS ANGELES- Heineken beer maker said on Tuesday it has withdrawn an ad for a lower calorie beer after musician rapper Chance The Rapper called the commercial “terribly racist.”

With growing number of companies misjudging their marketing strategies, Heineken is now pulling out their video of their Heineken Light ad from all global markets.

The company said in a statement “While we feel the ad is referencing our Heineken Light beer, we missed the mark, are taking the feedback to heart and will use this to influence future campaigns,” the company said in a statement.

The ad shows the tagline “Sometimes, Lighter is Better” showing a bartender sliding a bottle of Heineken Light past a number of people of color, before it reaches a light-skinned woman.

The decision to pull out the ad comes after the Chicago born rapper Tweeted,

“I think some companies are purposely putting out noticeably racist ads so they can get more views.

“I gotta just say tho. The “sometimes lighter is better” Heineken commercial is terribly racist omg,”

The artist made it clear he was not asking people to boycott the brand  but said “I’m just noticing how often it happens.”

Heineken added in their statement that they have a “positive track record for creating marketing that shows there’s more that unites us than divides us.”

The company claims their lighter beer just has 99 calories.
