CAPE TOWN – Wits will travel to Mauritius to take on Pamplemousses in the second-leg of their CAF Chanpions League preliminary round qualifier on Wednesday.
The clever Boys come into the game on the back of a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrowa in the Absa Premiership on Saturday. Frank Mhango scored first for Wits and was quickly followed by Lehlohonolo Majoro who slotted a penalty before the break. A penalty by Limbikani Mzava was the only consolation for the host team.
In the last eight games across all competitions, Wits has only lost once, a 1-0 Nedbank Cup defeat at the hands of Cape Town City and should be full of confidence as they aim to get past Pamplemousses at Anjalay Stadium.
Wits coach Gavin Hunt cut a frustrated figure after the first leg, despite winning 2-0 against Pamplemousses. He believes his team could have won with a bigger margin.
“This form we are taking from PSL,” said Hunt.
“I keep saying every week that the reason we are where we are (on the PSL table) is because of our lack of goal-scoring, which is what we saw tonight.
“We should have won 10-0. But the form you saw tonight is the form we have in the PSL, and that’s a problem.”
