JOHANNESBURG- The film Inxeba: The Wound will return to local cinema screens after an agreement was made to drop the X-18 rating of the film.
The film producers did go to the high court on Tuesday morning to challenge the decision by the Film and Publication Board Appeals Tribunal to increase the age restriction to X-18.
The higher age restriction essentially banned the film from showing in cinema. The main reason the tribunal raised the age restriction was because of the last month protests against the film in parts of the Eastern Cape and Western Cape, who claimed the film defamed AmaXhosa and their culture.
The some viewed the protests are homophobic, explaining that the anger of Inxeba comes from opposition of its gay characters.
The film is set around Xhosa initiation season, follows the journey of three men, two of them have a romantic relationship.
