Israel Folau sparks controversy by saying God’s plan for gay people is ‘HELL’

CAPE TOWN- Israel Folau Australia’s highest profile player has again caused controversy with a social media comment condemning gay people to go to “hell”.

According to Stuff website, six months after tweeting his opposition to to same sex marriage, during the time Australians had to vote via postal last year on marriage equality, Folau said, “on Instagram that God’s plan for gay people was “HELL… Unless they repent of their sins and turn to God”.

Folau who has over 337 000 followers on Instagram made a comment after a question was poised to him by another user on Tuesday, the user Mike Sephton-Poultney asked, ”

“@izzyfolau what was gods [sic] plan for gay people??”

Folau replied, “that God’s plan for gay people was HELL… Unless they repent of their sins and turn to God”.

The exchange between quickly went viral and picked up around the world.

Rugby Australia spokesperson said the governing body will not comment.

Folau has not deleted the comment even though the spokesperson said he had.

Folau a devout Christian, has always spoken up about his views around marriage equality, especially the lead up to the vote, he once tweeted, “I love and respect all people for who they are and their opinions. but personally, I will not support gay marriage.”
