LOS ANGELES- Kanye West has had a wild week this week, it this might be the most outrageous thing he has said so far, speaking in TMZ live, the rapper said, “You hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sounds like a choice,”
West did not go further to explain his statement and said his views have been interrupted as speaking for the African American community.
He said, “We’re mentally in prison. I like the word ‘prison’ because slavery is too direct to the idea of blacks. Like Holocaust is Jews, slavery is blacks.”
His comments sparked outrage on Twitter, he was even taken to account by TMZ employee Van Lathan who said, “who said he was “appalled”, and “I actually don’t think you’re thinking anything,”
Lathan went on to say while Kanye lives in a elite world, “rest of us in society have to deal with these threats in our lives. We have to deal with the marginalisation that has come from the 400 years of slavery that you said for our people was our choice.”
WATCH, the clip of the interview:
Reaction from Twitter:
Kanye is a dangerous caricature of an “free thinking” black person in America. Frankly, I am disgusted and I’m over it. Also (I can’t believe I have to say this): Slavery was far from a choice.

Don’t usually get caught up in commenting about stuff like this but I saw what Kanye West said and I was ASHAMED. 400 Years of slavery a CHOICE???? Really! All I’ll say is this: I’m incredibly proud of that staffer from TMZ. Brilliant, Eloquent & totally appropriate response.#WTH
