Kaizer Chiefs winger Keagan Dolly has revealed he had to work twice as hard to make the matchday squad against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Dolly came on as a second half substitute in Chiefs’ 2-2 draw against Sundowns in the MTN8 after Staurt Baxter had confirmed that his fitness wasn’t up to the required standard.
Speaking to Kaizer Chiefs media, Dolly said he could see that the club was evolving and he just wanted to be part of the process.
And that’s because he watched from the stands when Chiefs took on Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup on 1 August.
“I could see how the team is evolving, and I wanted to be part of the process,” he told the Amakhosi website.
“I think missing out on the Carling Cup – and seeing how well the team performed and how the guys played – made me want to join the team,” he said.
Dolly added that he kept on working hard soon after the Carling Black Label Cup in order to be back to his old shape a chance of being selected.
“I kept on working hard with the fitness trainers, kept on working hard on my own, and I got my opportunity against Sundowns,” Dolly added.
