Kenyan envoy under fire for hunting game in Namibia

Kenya’s ambassador to Namibia is under fire online following a photo of him posing next to a dead antelope with a rifle in his hand being shared widely on social media.

Benjamin Langat, who has not commented about the photo, has been accused by some on Twitter of violating Kenya’s commitment to wildlife conservation despite getting permission to hunt in Namibia.

Many commented on the irony of the photo on a State House post about the president commending Kenya’s wildlife agencies for their effort in fighting poaching – one Twitter user called for the ambassador to be recalled.

Kenya banned game hunting in 1977 to conserve its wildlife.

Namibia allows trophy hunting and uses funds raised from licensing to conserve endangered species.
