Khoza says PSL cares about the NFD

JOHANNESBURG- Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman Irvin Khoza has disagreed at reports that the PSL  has neglected the National First Division (NFD).

The Absa Premiership league is backed by the Telkom Cup, MTN8, and the NedbankCup.

Khoza has dismissed claims that the PSL has neglected the NFD after R1.5 million is given to the club that reaches the top summit of the league and that clubs use their reserves to participate in the league.

He said, “It is not easy to get sponsors. Even big brands like Bafana Bafana struggles to get sponsors. The NFD is a good and strong league but it is not on TV which makes it difficult to attract sponsors. We are trying our level best to broadcast some of its matches. Sponsors want to benefit when they put their money into something,” Highlands Park are on the brink of gaining promotion. They need one point to clinch the title. Tomorrow (Saturday) they will come up against University of Pretoria at Makhulong Stadium.

“We are not neglecting the NFD. The league is active and strong. We are confident that something will come up in the near future,”
