Johannesburg – Gauteng Basic Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has pledged his commitment to ridding classrooms of racial divide.
Lesufi was addressing parents from Hoerskool Jan Viljoen in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg, on Sunday.
This follows serious tensions after racism claims at the school.
“What we have and what we are committing ourselves and what we are going to do, whether other people like it or not, we are determined to build a non-racial South Africa,” said Lesufi.
Meanwhile, a teacher at the same school has been suspended following sexual harassment claims.
The MEC said the provincial department supports the decision by the school’s Governing Body to suspend the implicated teacher.
