Lewis Hamilton ends drought with win in Azerbaijan

BAKU- Lewis Hamilton won probably one of his luckiest wins in his career on Sunday after the chaotic, crash ridden Azerbaijan Grand Prix that catapulted him into the lead of the Formula One world championship.

The victory was a surprise after his teammate Valtteri Bottas suffered a puncture with three laps remaining, he ended up in sixth place, this now ends the drought for the four times champion dating back to last October.

This is the first victory of season for championship reigning Mercedes.

The race was riddled with injections from the safety car played a key role, as a number of crashes and smashes played an important role on who ended up on the podium.

Kimi Raikkonen finished second for Ferrari, third place was Mexican driver Sergio Perez for Force India.

Hamilton now leads with 70 points, Vettel in second position of 66 points in the overall standings of the driver standings.

Hamilton commented on the podium, ” It was quite an emotional race. Valtteri did an exceptional job and deserved to win, Sebastian also did a great job so it feels a bit odd to be up here,”

“Definitely an untidy race for me.”

He commented on the nature of the race, he said, “It was such a crazy race, such an exciting race…to come out with a win, I feel incredibly grateful.”
