Looming showdown between Moyane and Ramaphosa, as disciplinary nears for suspended SARS boss

JOHANNESBURG- Disciplinary process against suspended SA Revenue Services commissioner Tom Moyane is set to get underway soon‚ after settlement talks failed.

The president, Cyril Ramaphosa suspended SARS boss Moyane last month, saying his handling of allegations against former deputy in charge Jonas Makwakwa and as well as the value added tax refunds to the controversial family the Guptas.

Ramaphosa said in his letter suspending Moyane referred to “deterioration in public confidence in the institution and in public finances being compromised.”

Business Day is reporting that it is understood that before his suspension Moyane turned down to settlements offers but  replied only to the third offer with his own terms which were then rejected by the president. ‘

Moyane terms and conditions are said to have included that Ramaphosa hold a press briefing‚ to which he (Moyane) would be invited‚ and announce their amicable parting of ways.

He also included that Ramaphosa to publicly acknowledge that under him‚ SARS had surpassed the R1-trillion “psychological barrier” for three years in a row.

Moyane also wanted acknowledgement that he ran SARS with “leadership and integrity”.
