JOHANNESBURG- Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) Julius Malema visiting Winnie Madikizela Mandela home on Tuesday said the spear has fallen but South Africans needs to pick themselves up he told mourners outside her home in Soweto.
Malema who was close to Mam’ Winnie paid homage to the late struggle stalwart. Mam’ Winnie was 81 years old and Malema said she died with her integrity intact and never befriended the enemy.
He said, “We are here to say to the people of South Africa the spear has fallen and we are here to pick up the spear and continue the fight,” he said.
“When we are here in this home, we are not visitors, we are children of this home. We grew up here. We ate here. We slept here.”
Malema said he will with his party be mobilizing the masses to attend the funeral and memorial services planned for next week.
He added, “We have lost a fearless fighter‚ a giant and a mother of the nation – a title which was bestowed on her by the people of South Africa. They declared her a mother of the nation – a position you don’t get elected to. You earn the title through the struggles you wage with your people.
“Because Mama was living among her people and has never betrayed her people‚ they gave her the title the mother of the nation. That is what we are here to celebrate – a life of a person who has never looked down on black people.”
