CAPE TOWN- Abram Masongo suspended Eskom Chief executive says his doesn’t believe that former Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown did not know about the extent of maladministration and corruption in Eskom.
He further claims that Lynne Brown was the one who halted the suspension of former Eskom head of generation Matshela Koko in March 2017.
Masongo revealed this information as he testified before the parliament inquiry into Eskom on Wednesday. He also claimed he never met any members of the Gupta family, only that Koko introduced him to one of their associates Salim Essa who was at the time a shareholder of Trillian Capital.
Masongo said that Eskom has good employees but those who want to report suspected corruption have nowhere to go within the company.
“When you go to any board member, you are talking to the same system. Probably only three or four were not involved.”
He says he considered resigning out of frustration and was relieved when Parliament decided to institute an inquiry into the state utility.
Masongo does not believe the former public enterprises minister Lynne Brown did know anything about Eskom wrongdoings, he said,
“I don’t believe the minister didn’t know what was going on, by the way, chair. The informal communication was reaching the minister.”
The inquiry will resume next, with the expect testimony of former Eskom board chairperson Ben Ngubane.
