
Harrismith – A shooting incident took place in the N11 near Harrismith yesterday morning. It is believed that this is a taxi-related shooting.
It is also reported that 11 people died and 3 are critically injured. Amongst the 11 people who lost their lives one of them is a taxi owner as well as his daughter.
According to eye witnesses a passing taxi lost control, but they are not whether gun shots were fired at the taxi or not.
The police released a statement to confirm the taxi owner who was killed in this incident is Mr. Ngobese the senior official member and the deputy chairperson of the Klipriver Taxi Association (KTA).
At around 7am yesterday morning, Mr Ngobese was travelling with 4 people who are believed to be his bodyguards were travelling in a Nissan bakkie on the Matiwaneskop road when 2 vehicles are said to have allegedly fired shots at them using assault rifles.
Mr Ngobese and the 4 other occupants were fatally shot. The other 5 people who died were on a taxi and they died on the scene while the other taxi occupants were transported to the hospital, due to the fact that they were seriously injured.
