JOHANNESBURG – Police Minister Fikile Mbabula says the police department will support Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba’s attempts to clean up the inner city, remove undocumented migrants and also reclaim illegal buildings.

Mbalula has warned that all criminals and illegal immigrants that precipitate the rate of crime in Joburg will face the full might of the law.

The Police Minister was speaking in Vanderbiljpark on Monday after his police department successfully raided a drug den belonging to Nigerians.

Mbalula says the police department will do everything in its power in eradicating all forms of crime, not only in Johannesburg but South Africa as a whole.

He also applauded Herman Mashaba’s brave move and efforts to help the police to fight and clean crime hotspots in the city.

Mashaba is allegedly prepared to take Home Affairs Minister Ayanda Dlodlo to court if her department fails to capture and deport illegal immigrants.

Mashaba was quoted saying, “The Home Affairs Minister and her department should do something about the escalated number of illegal immigrants in South Africa, most of these people are responsible for crimes largely in the inner city and South Africans fear to walk freely in their mother country…if the department fails to deliver, we will take them to court.”
