Measles cases identified in Gauteng

Johannesburg – Health Minister Joe Phaahla is calling for calm and vigilance after government detected cases of measles in Gauteng.

At least four cases – three in Tshwane and one in the West Rand – have been detected over the past two weeks.

All four individuals are presently isolated and are recovering.

Some of the symptoms including fever, red eyes, a runny nose and a cough.

Measles in Zimbabwe recently has led to the deaths of 14 children in recent weeks.

Health authorities will be beefing up vaccination campaigns in affected districts.
