MEMORIAL SERVICES PLANNED FOR MADIKIZELA-MANDELA IN NEW YORK

NEW YORK-  A number of memorial services have been planned for the late Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in New York City this week, the first US city she visited with Nelson Mandela upon his release from prison in 1990.

Mama Winnie is being remembered by activists across America who rallied behind the struggle icon.

Sisters Against South African Apartheid one of the organisations that fought the apartheid government in the states, Madikizela Mandela become close with the organisation and they will meet on Tuesday in Brooklyn, at the House of the Lord Church to honor her in a memorial.

On Thursday another memorial in Harlem will be hosted Abyssinian Baptist Church.

Deputy Secretary general of the United Nations (UN) Amina Mohammed is expected to attend the memorial.

Then on Friday the UN will host a tribute event and a book of condolences which will open at the South African consulate to the UN.
