Mertesacker- Winning Europa League will be the perfect sending off for Wenger

LONDON- Per Mertesacker Arsenal defender said the players are focused on the Europa League semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday and said that they also want a grand send off for Arsene Wenger.

Wenger announced after 22 years he will step down as manager of Arsenal at the end of the season, where he won three Premier league titles and seven FA cups.

His European success has escaped the legendary manger, having lost UEFA champions league final against Barcelona in 2005.

Mertesacker told reporters, “He made it very clear to us that this is his clear target now, to win the Europa League and every match we are going to face now. Now we can come together and let him leave in style…,”

“The team responded to his announcement fairly quickly. We had an atmosphere that, we want to do it for you to send you off in the best possible way.”

Arsenal are currently in sixth position on the log, the team has yet to name the successor for Wenger.

The defender added what will be the best fit for side, he said, “Now we have to find another good fit to start a new era.”
