JOHANNESBURG- Metro bus has warned their commuters that they must brace themselves for a 7% increase of fares from Sunday.
This increase come after Joburg city council approved the 2018/19 budget recently after mayor Herman Mashaba from the Democratic Alliance previous drafted budgets were rejected.
The increase has come with consumers feeling more pressure, with a VAT increase by 1%, petrol prices continually increasing and a general hike in the cost of living.
Metrobus spokesperson Goodwill Shiburi said that they will be discounts for specified commuters and that will remain unchanged.
“We’re also keeping our discounts unchanged. We give 47% to all scholar uniform and those with student cards and the elderly people we give 90% discounts. So, the discount part remains the same.”
